Get Started:
To start, find your inspiration and select a colour from the Dulux colour range. Don’t be afraid to be bold, brightly coloured doors can breathe new life into the entrance of your home.
Choose a sheen level that suits your home. Semi Gloss is the perfect complement to low sheen walls, or you may look for a distinct Gloss or Low Gloss finish.
Lay down a drop sheet. Make sure your front door is clean and then sand it smooth using medium grit sandpaper. Wipe down the surface with a damp cloth to remove any dust.
Using high quality painters tape, mask off the edges of the door and cover any glass with paper.
Now apply the prep coat. Dulux 1Step® Prep is recommended for a long lasting and professional finish. Apply to the smaller sections of the door first, working your way out to the longest vertical panels. TIP: Always work from the corners out, to avoid build up.
Leave the prep coat to dry for 2 hours, then lightly sand back the surface. TIP: Use Dulux Aquanamel for your front door. It is a durable, non yellowing, water based enamel paint that is low odour, fast drying and easily washes up in water.
Make sure to stir the paint thoroughly before getting started.
Using your paint brush, start filling in the front panels of the door. Then, fill in the vertical sections between the panels. Followed by the horizontal sections at the top, middle and bottom. And finally, the outside vertical panels.
Leave the door to dry for at least 2 hours before applying a second coat in the same way as the first.
And that's it! Simply clean up using responsible paint disposal methods and enjoy your new look. TIP: We recommend a light sand between the prep coat and the first coat once dry, and again between the top coats to provide the best finish.
