No more traditional “Girlish Pink” or ”Boyish Blue” stereotyped bedrooms for our children! With the political correctness vibe rife, the design world is swinging towards more gender-neutral room schemes for children’s areas in 2018 and beyond.

Gender neutral schemes in simple white, off whites, soft greys with hints of accent tones like - darker shades of grey, charcoal and blacks thrown into the mix, along with pops of colour to add that quirky fun element to the scheme.

Even using the basic gender-neutral colour scheme rules, you can then add the “Boy / Girl” element again with pops of colour and accessories which are specific to the child’s interests. Interests could include things like, “Surf/Beachy” (by adding nautical colours and a surf board), ”Adventurer/Outdoors” (by adding a climbing wall as a bed head, or a tee-pee and vintage map or industrial light fitting and olde world accessories), to “Vintage Shabby Chic” with the addition of soft sage green and liberty pattern in soft pinks and apricots. There are no rules; children’s rooms can be anything from modern to vintage or even a mix of both.

Add interest to the room with clever storage areas, bunk beds for sleepovers and interesting accessories that reflect the chosen scheme and heighten the sense of “Come On Let’s Play”.
